Ortega Burgers

Happy Labor Day!

Ortega Burgers
Idea from my favorite aunt and one of my favorite chefs, the Trout Scout, burger recipe from Jamie

Ingredients:
1 lb. Ground Beef
1/2 Onion, chopped
1 Egg
4 t. Worcestershire Sauce
Salt and Pepper, as desired
1 can Ortega or Serrano Peppers, depending on how spicy you like it, halved and de-seeded
Swiss Cheese to cover burgers
Hamburger buns, tomatoes, lettuce, mustard, ketchup - all the fixings you like!

Directions:
Pre-heat grill to between 400 - 600 degrees.  Mix ground beef, chopped onion, egg, and Worcestershire sauce by hand and form into 4 equal patties about 3" in diameter.  Turn grill temperature down to about 400 degrees and place patties on grill.  Cook on each side until grill marks appear.  At this point, you can move heat up to about 600 degrees to make sure burgers cook through.  About two minutes before patties will be done, lay peppers and then cheese flat across the top.  Should eventually look approximately like:

Take patties off grill, assemble your burger, enjoy your extra day off and celebrate the economic and social achievements of workers!

  1. Best burger I have ever eaten; your favorite aunt/chef is now my favorite as well.
